There’s a sobering line in an old American folk hymn called Brethren, We Have Met to Worship that pretty much sums up every aspect of Christian ministry: ’All is vain unless the Spirit of the Holy One comes down.’ Without the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, all human effort is 100% vain. Pack it up. Go home. Move along. Nothing to see here, folks.
Jesus told the disciples, ’…stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high’ (Luke 24:49). ‘The Naked Worshiper’ sounds like a risqué reality TV show. The sad reality is that many times music ministers like myself fail to spend time waiting upon the LORD, having our strength renewed, and being clothed anew with power from on high. We are spiritually naked and should be arrested for public spiritual nudity!
The Powerful Worshiper is wholly dependent upon his power Source in every facet of ministry and boldly proclaims his status as merely a treasure-filled jar of clay whose sole purpose is to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us (2 Corinthians 4:7).
